Why did God call his son God?

Does this mean that Jesus is really God too?

Psalms 45:6 Thy throne, O God (elohim), is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre.

Hebrews 1:8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God (theos), is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.

God called other men gods

Psalms 82:6 I have said, Ye are gods (elohim); and all of you are children of the most High. 7 But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.

Jesus explains why

John 10:34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods (theos)? 35 If he called them gods (theos), unto whom the word of God (theos) came, and the scripture cannot be broken; 36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God (theos)?

From this we understand that God called men gods who received the word of God. That didn’t make them ‘the’ God. Similarly, calling his Son ‘god’ doesn’t make his Son ‘the’ God. Jesus is still the Son of God, not ‘God the Son’ as trinitarians wrongly suppose.

God is Jesus’ God.

John 20:17…I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

He now sits at God's right hand and acts as a mediator and intercessor.

1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

I hope you find this helpful.

God bless,
Glenn
