What does manifest mean?

Does "manifest" have a special meaning when used in the Bible?

Thank you for asking a question on www.thisisyourbible.com

From the Oxford English Dictionary:

Manifest:  clear or obvious to the eye or mind; be evidence of; prove.

In the New Testament it is first used in Luke 8:17 For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.

Using Strong’s Concordance and the Online Bible Greek Lexicon:

Manifest is the Greek word phaneros meaning: apparent, evident, known; to be plainly recognised or known.

The next time manifest is used is in John 1:31 And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water. The Greek word here is the verb form phaneroo

A similar Greek word is translated manifest in John 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

Manifest here is the Greek word emphanizo meaning to show openly, appear, or declare plainly, exhibit to view; to show one’s self, to indicate, disclose.

Another Greek word is translated manifest in 1 Corinthians 15:27 For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him.
Here, the Greek word for Manifest is "delos";  Meaning: clear, evident, manifest.
A related Greek word is translated manifest in 1 Timothy 5:25 Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid.  Manifest is the Greek word "prodelos"  Meaning: openly evident, known to all, manifest.

Another related Greek word is translated manifest in 2 Timothy 3:9 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.  The word "Manifest" in this verse is the Greek word ekdelos meaning: evident, clear, conspicuous.

Another Greek word is translated manifest in 2 Thessalonians 1:5 Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer:  The word "manifest" in this verse is endeigma meaning token, evidence, proof.

I hope this helps.
