Thank you for asking a question on www.thisisyourbible.com

My personal preference is for the King James Version. However, this translation is not the only useful translation. In fact the language of the King James is very challenging to many. It has a Shakespearian turn of phrase which many folks find difficult to follow.

Of the modern translations, the 1971 RSV (Revised Standard Version) is probably the best although the NKJV (New King James Version) is very good too.

If you are not put off by its use of language, I would purchase the King James version but if you want a good modern translation, then go with The New King James Version. Although I believe the RSV 1971 edition to be superior to the NKJV, it is difficult to find but the NKJV is readily available.  The "New Revised Standard Version" is also readily available but it is not very well regarded.

IIf you want to come to grips with what the Bible really teaches, why not take the free Bible study course on https://www.thisisyourbible.com? You may take this course either online or by regular mail.

This course will give you a background in the major themes of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. As with everything we offer, there is no cost to you other than your time and effort. You will also have a personal tutor to whom you may pose questions either from the course itself or those questions which come to you as you read the Bible.

I hope you have found this helpful.

God bless!
