Without the Bible there could be no Christians.

The Bible (in the Hebrew Old Testament and Greek New Testament form) was written by inspiration of God. It explains God’s purpose and the vital part that Jesus Christ has in reconciling men to God through his perfect life, sacrificial death and resurrection to eternal life.

The Hebrew Old Testament points forward to Christ (the messiah or anointed one) promised through the line of Judah.

The Greek New Testament records Christ’s genealogy, birth, life, teaching, death, resurrection and ascension to heaven.

It records his fulfilment of Old Testament prophecies. It records the miracles that he did to show that he was indeed sent by God and the gospel that he preached concerning the future kingdom of God.

The gospel was first preached to the Jews (for he was their Messiah) and afterwards to the gentiles (non-Jews).

The New Testament prophesies that this world will be judged and ruled by Jesus Christ as foretold in the Old Testament.

Acts 17:31 Because he (God) hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

Acts 3:18 But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled. 19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; 20 And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: 21 Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.

His followers were first called Christians at Antioch.

Acts 11:26 And when he (Barnabas) had found him (Paul), he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

The Bible teaches that there is no other way of salvation from sin and death other than Jesus Christ.

John 8:24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

If we want to be saved by resurrection to eternal life we must believe the gospel and be baptised into Christ.

Mark 16:15,16 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.  He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned (condemned).

Having been baptised into Christ we must live by his commandments.

Romans 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:

The Bible is the only source of the commandments of Christ. To be a Christian we must read the Bible and put it into practice in our daily lives.

2 Timothy 3:15,16 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

A Christian cannot be a Christian without a thoroughgoing knowledge of the Bible.

Many who claim to be Christian know very little of the Bible and many others ‘add to’ or ‘take away from’ what is written. Hence the large number of different ‘Christian’ churches with different doctrines and different gospels. This is also prophesied.

2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

I hope you have found this helpful.

May God bless you,

Glenn.
