2 Timothy 3:2 [ESV] For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy....
The phrase "lovers of self" is a translation of the Greek "philautos." Just as the Greek word "philadelphia" means "love of the brethren" so "philautos" means "love of oneself". The word means just what you would think it does: selfish or extraordinarily self-centred. This is a perfect description of the attitude prevalent in our day and age.
