These days, many people think of being "born again" as a kind of mystical experience where one is overwhelmed by the spirit and filled with an instant conviction to "receive the Lord Jesus Christ as one's personal saviour." This is not the case and falls into the category of "instant gratification" sought by people in so many aspects of modern life.

To be sure, being "born again" does involve deep emotion and true commitment but there is more to it than that.

1 Peter 1:22-25 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

To be born again, one must first believe and understand the gospel. You cannot commit yourself to God's kingdom without first knowing what it is and you can, in Christ, become a part of it. In other words, you need to have a good idea about the true teaching of the Bible.

I hope you have found this helpful.
