Judas hanged himself which led to a gruesome and unexpected result.
Matthew 27:5 And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.
Comparing this verse in Matthew with Acts 1:18, Judas must have hanged himself on a tree and the rope or branch broke causing his body to fall over a cliff leading to his disembowelment.
