I am sorry to hear that you suffer from this distressing complaint.

Should you avail yourself of the medical treatments available today? The short answer is an emphatic YES!  There is no commandment in the Bible which prohibits the use of medication to alleviate illness.

Luke, the writer of the third Gospel account and the Acts of the Apostles was a doctor.

Colossians 4:14 Luke, the beloved physician, and Demas, greet you.

Jesus speaks of those who are sick having need of a doctor:

Matthew 9:12 But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.

The advice of Paul to Timothy is perhaps rather elementary but it does, in principle, advocate the use of wine as a medication.

1 Timothy 5:23 Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities.

External medication was used by the Samaritan to treat wounds in the parable.

Luke 10:34 And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

Hezekiah was cured by an application of figs.

2 Kings 20:7 And Isaiah said, Take a lump of figs. And they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered.

We live in an age when medical knowledge has increased to be effective in the treatment of many illnesses. This is a blessing from God for which he is to be thanked. It is an interim situation until Christ returns to establish the kingdom of God.

Despite the fraudulent claims of some, the Holy Spirit gift of healing is no longer available today as it was in the first century AD. However, when Christ returns all illness will be curable by the direct power of God as it was through Jesus at his first advent. Until Christ returns we are free to avail ourselves of the medication available through the medical profession.

The treatment of our natural infirmities can only be temporary at best, for we all will die eventually. If we want eternal life free from illness and disease we must seek for spiritual health by believing and obeying the gospel preached by Jesus. If we do this we will be raised from the dead to eternal life when Christ returns.

I hope you have found this helpful.

God bless,
Glenn
