He no doubt asked for forgiveness, but it couldn’t save his life in the short term.

The sentence for disobedience (sin) is death, as it is for all men and women.

Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Romans 5:19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

Forgiveness is only available through faith (active belief) in the sacrifice of the one who obeyed and did not sin.

God’s promise of a seed of the woman who would bruise the head of the serpent is a metaphor promising a man who would undo the consequences of the serpent’s deception of Eve.

Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

This gave faithful men and women hope to live as far as they were able by God’s precepts, knowing that God would provide a way of forgiveness. From Adam onwards all who had faith in God’s promise of a redeemer and lived their lives accordingly will be raised from the dead to eternal life at a time yet future.

Jesus Christ is the promised redeemer. He gave his perfect life as a sacrifice for sin.

We can obtain forgiveness for our sins and resurrection to eternal life by believing and obeying the gospel preached by Jesus and his apostles.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

When Christ returns he will raise and judge the dead.

John 5:28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation (condemnation).

The faithful will have their sins forgiven and be given eternal life. The unfaithful will die again and perish forever.
