The Holy Spirit is the power of God.

There are only three baptisms with the Holy Spirit recorded in the New Testament.

The first was on Jesus Christ at his baptism.

The second was on the apostles at Pentecost,

The third was on Cornelius’ household, the purpose of which was to show Peter and the Jews that Gentiles were to be accepted into the church.

Other believers were not baptised with the Holy Spirit.

They received gifts of the spirit after baptism by the laying on of the apostles’ hands

Acts 8:17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

Acts 8:18… when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money,

Acts 19:6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

When the apostles died there were no further gifts of the Holy Spirit.

The gospel and doctrines are complete in written form and Holy Spirit gifts are not necessary.

We are saved today by how we respond to the Gospel, not by receiving supernatural power via the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 1:21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

The scriptures were written by inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

2 Peter 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

It is the word of God in the scriptures that is able to make us wise unto salvation.

2 Timothy 3:15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
