Proverbs 17:9 He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.

He that covereth a transgression

He that conceals, as far as he can, other men’s faults against himself, or against their friends.

He hides their faults out of love for them

Leviticus 19:18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.

He that repeateth a matter separateth very friends

He that spreads gossip about the faults of others breaks up friendships even of close friends.

Leviticus 19:16 Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbour: I am the LORD.

Proverbs 11:13 A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.
