How do we humble ourselves based on 1 Peter 5:1-6?

In context, the elders are to serve as overseers, shepherding the flock and setting an example. As Jesus demonstrated: John 13:14

The younger are to serve the elders by submission. All are to cultivate a humble disposition with respect to one another; thus obeying the commandment of Jesus Christ to love one another as he loved us - i.e. laying down his life for us. 1 John 3:16

Pride has no place in the service of God. We humble ourselves by doing what God wants rather than what we want. Luke 22:42
