In Hebrews 11:32 why are the names not in historical order?

Hebrews 11:32 And what more shall I say? For the time would fail me to tell of Gideon and Barak and Samson and Jephthah, also of David and Samuel and the prophets.

  • Gideon - Judges 6 - Half tribe of Mannaseh - West of Jordan - Fought the Midianites
  • Barak - Judges 4 - Tribe of Napthtali - West of Jordan - Fought the Canaanites
  • Samson - Judges 13 - Tribe of Dan - West of Jordan - Fought the Philistines
  • Jephthah – Judges 11 - Half tribe of Mannaseh - East of Jordan - Fought the Ammonites

If by divine order, you mean their historical order, I can discern no reason for the ordering that the writer to the Hebrews uses – it appears to be random.

I hope this helps

God bless,
Glenn
