Is having a baby out of wedlock a sin even though my boyfriend and I have been living togther for several years?

It is not a matter of church discipline or of church attendance, it is a matter of correctly understanding the Gospel preached by Jesus Christ and his apostles.

We all sin and each and every sin condemns us to eternal death. Ezekiel 18:4

This is real death, not ‘spiritual death’ as some churches teach. Neither do we have an ‘immortal soul’ which lives on after death. ‘soul’ in scripture describes our ‘whole being’, not something we possess.

We are born with the propensity to sin because Adam and Eve disobeyed God and brought sin and death upon themselves and their descendants. Romans 5:12

God has provided a way of escape from sin and death through his only begotten Son Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ lived a sinless life and gave it in sacrifice to redeem those who will believe and obey the Gospel that he preached. Those who believe and obey the Gospel will be raised from the dead and given eternal life in the Kingdom of God on the earth.

What is required of us is as follows:

  1. We must understand and believe the Gospel. strong>Mark 1:14,15
  2. We must repent of our sinful way of life (change the way that we live).Acts 3:19
  3. Be baptised by immersion in water for the remission of our past sins. Acts 22:16
  4. Live a new life by the commandments of Jesus Christ. Romans 6:4; John 15:13,14
  5. After baptism, we will still sin through weakness, but providing we are making a determined effort to live by Christ’s commandments our sins will be forgiven by confession in prayer. 1 John 1:7-9
  6. When we are baptised we are baptised into a body of believers who can help one another to live a Christ-like life. Romans 12:5;1 Thessalonians 5:11
  7. Baptised believers are commanded to observe just one ordinance – they are to meet often to share bread and wine in remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice. 1 Corinthians 11:23-26

No matter how sinful we have been, we can always make a new start by believing and obeying the Gospel. There are no short cuts.

Though conceiving a child outside of marriage is a sin, it doesn’t mean your child is unclean. Children do not carry the sin of their parents. When they reach maturity they will be judged on the sins they commit, not on the sin of their parents.

In Christ we become Abraham’s seed and heirs of the promise of eternal inheritance on the earth. Galatians 3:27-29; 1 Corinthians 15:21-23

I hope you find this helpful.

God bless,
