Ghosts as believed to be the ‘spirits’ of dead people do not exist.

When a person dies they cease to exist.Nothing continues on after death.

Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath (or spirit – same word in Hebrew) of life; and man became a living being.

When we cease to breathe we die and return to the dust.

Ecclesiastes 12:7 Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, And the spirit (or breath) will return to God who gave it.

Psalms 146:4 His spirit (or breath) departs, he returns to his earth; In that very day his plans perish.

Psalms 104:29...You take away their breath (or spirit), they die and return to their dust.

In death there is no conscious existence.

Ecclesiastes 9:5 For the living know that they will die; But the dead know nothing, And they have no more reward, For the memory of them is forgotten.6 Also their love, their hatred, and their envy have now perished; Nevermore will they have a share In anything done under the sun.

 We die because we sin.

Ezekiel 18:4 Behold, all souls are Mine; The soul of the father As well as the soul of the son is Mine; The soul who sins shall die.

The dead 'sleep' in the dust of the earth.

1 Kings 2:10 So David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David.

Daniel 12:2 And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, Some to everlasting life, Some to shame and everlasting contempt.

John 11:11 These things He said, and after that He said to them, "Our friend Lazarus sleeps, but I go that I may wake him up....14 Then Jesus said to them plainly, "Lazarus is dead.

The only way a man can 'survive' death is by resurrection. The TRUE HOPE of the gospel is resurrection from the dead. And this is the gospel preached in the New Testament.

John 6:40 "And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day."

Acts 24:15 "I have hope in God, which they themselves also accept, that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust.

Philippians 3:11 if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.

Paul describes what will happen.

1 Corinthians 15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.23 But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming.24 Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power.25 For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet.26 The last enemy that will be destroyed is death.27 For "He has put all things under His feet." But when He says "all things are put under Him," it is evident that He who put all things under Him is excepted.28 Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all.
