How are prophecies sealed?

Daniel 9:24 Seventy weeks are determined For your people and for your holy city, To finish the transgression, To make an end of sins, To make reconciliation for iniquity, To bring in everlasting righteousness, To seal up vision and prophecy, And to anoint the Most Holy.

Using Strong’s Concordance: Seal up <02856> חתם chatham a primitive root; verb;

Translated in the KJV – ‘seal’ 18 times, ‘seal up’ 6 times, ‘marked’ 1 time, ‘stopped’ 1 time, variant 1 time.

Meaning: to seal, seal up, affix a seal; to seal, affix one’s seal; to seal up, fasten up by sealing; to seal; to lock up; to be stopped.

In Daniel 9:24 To seal up – the meaning here is “to complete, to finish”

For example: Esther 8:8 You yourselves write a decree concerning the Jews, as you please, in the king’s name, and seal it <02856> with the king’s signet ring; for whatever is written in the king’s name and sealed <02856> with the king’s signet ring no one can revoke.

The ‘seventy weeks’ would result in the work of the Messiah upon which the fulfilment of the prophecy hinged.

Daniel 12:4 But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal <02856> the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.

Seal the book – the prophecy is complete – to be fulfilled in the end time.

Revelation 10:4 Now when the seven thunders uttered their voices, I was about to write; but I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, "Seal up the things which the seven thunders uttered, and do not write them."

Using Strong’s Concordance: Seal up - <4972> σφραγίζω sphragizo. Translated in the KJV – ‘seal’ 22 times, ‘set to (one’s) seal’ 1 time, ‘stop’ 1 time, ‘seal up’ 1 time, ‘set a seal’ 1 time, vr ‘seal’ 1 time.

Meaning:

  • to set a seal upon, mark with a seal, to seal
  • for security
  • since things sealed up are concealed (as the contents of a letter), to hide, keep in silence, keep secret
  • in order to mark a person or a thing
  • to set a mark upon by the impress of a seal or a stamp
  • in order to prove, confirm, or attest a thing
  • to confirm authenticate, place beyond doubt

Seal up – The meaning here is to not write down what the thunders uttered but to conceal them.

I hope you find this helpful.

God bless,
