http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albertus_Magnus provides the following information:

According to legend, Albertus Magnus is said to have discovered the philosopher's stone and passed it to his pupil Thomas Aquinas, shortly before his death. Magnus does not confirm he discovered the stone in his writings, but he did record that he witnessed the creation of gold by "transmutation." [Julian Franklyn and Frederick E Budd. ‘A Survey of the Occult’. Electric Book Company. 2001. p.28-30. ISBN 1843270870] Given that Thomas Aquinas died six years before Albertus Magnus' death, this legend as stated is unlikely.

Alchemy is not mentioned in the Bible and forms no basis for man’s salvation.

The search for a catalyst that will change the molecular structure of a base metal to that of gold has never been successful and the legend about Thomas Aquinas and Albertus Magnus should be recognised for the nonsense it is.

The statement that ‘he did record that he witnessed the creation of gold by ‘transmutation’ should be treated with the scepticism that it deserves.

Neither Thomas Aquinas nor Albertus Magnus understood the gospel that would have been able to save them.

They are not alive in heaven as the Roman Catholic Church would have us believe. They are dead and the dead have no conscious existence.

Ecclesiastes 9:5 For the living know that they will die; But the dead know nothing,

The study of the Bible can open to you the way to eternal life which to my mind is far more valuable than being able to turn base metal into gold.

My advice is forget alchemy and study scripture for yourself.

2 Timothy 3:15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
